What is nostalgia in the

digital age?

P1000748_edited.jpg

The exponential increase in computer memory and evolving camera technology makes it possible to produce and store an evergrowing amount of images.

While drowning in an abundance of images and on-screen information - what are the moments that are meaningful to us and that we want to capture?

Which Instagram-stories will I want to show to my grandchildren 40 years from now?

‘’...nostalgia is a completely different beast to generations who have grown up documenting their lives online. It is no longer an internal emotion or a quiet yearning for what has passed. Instead, it is a deafening roar of collective online voices about how far we've come, how we can present that progress, and how our teenage identities on MySpace can be reconciled with our twentysomething personas on Facebook.‘’

The screen takes center stage at significant and defining moments of our lives as our everyday living is intertwined with digital interaction.

Precious Memory is an exploration into meaningful memories that we capture in images - in the past and now.

How have our daily interactions changed?

Which images are still precious to us?

80 dia-slides form a story, where the digital is corresponing to the analogue and vice versa, comparing old and new, along with searching

for a common ground.

"The camera began redefining nostalgia in 1888, when Kodak released a small and simple personal camera for amateurs: “You press the button, we do the rest.” The camera quickly became indispensable for recording and curating our lives."
